Privacy, in plain words

Effective 30 September 2026. This notice explains how information is handled when you read articles, use the writing tools or contact the website.

Information you choose to provide

If the contact form is available and you submit it, your name, email address and message are sent to the site's mailbox through its email provider. The website does not save a separate copy in its article database. Email providers and mailbox backups may retain correspondence according to their own systems. Please do not send passwords, identity documents or sensitive information.

Messages and cards created in your browser

Names and greeting text entered in the greeting customiser or card editor are processed in your browser. They are not submitted to the website or stored in its database. A greeting moved to the card editor briefly appears in the URL fragment, which browsers do not send to the server, and the fragment is removed when the editor opens. Downloaded cards remain on your device unless you choose to share them.

Essential cookies and security

Contact and administration pages use an essential session cookie named kn_session for form protection and sign-in. It is not used for advertising. Administrative sessions expire after 30 minutes of inactivity. The site also keeps short-lived, keyed records to limit abusive contact and sign-in attempts. These records are used for security, not profiling.

Server logs

The hosting provider may record an IP address, requested URL, browser information, response status and timestamp in ordinary access or security logs. Search words appear in the search-page URL and may therefore be present in server logs or browser history. Log and backup retention is controlled by the hosting and email providers.

Analytics

The site does not require analytics to provide its reading, greeting or card tools. If analytics is introduced, this notice will identify the service and any consent or choice controls that apply.

Advertising and Google services

Advertising is not required to use the site. We may use advertising services, including Google AdSense, when advertising is enabled. Advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to deliver, limit and measure ads. Depending on location, consent and account settings, ads may be personalised or non-personalised. Where consent is legally required, the relevant advertising or storage technology will not be activated until the required choice has been obtained.

Google and other advertising partners process information under their own privacy terms. You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings; blocking cookies may affect preferences or features on some websites. Google's advertising controls are also available through its own ad settings pages.

Articles may link to other websites when a source or useful resource is relevant. Those websites control their own content, cookies and privacy practices. Opening an external link is your choice.

Sharing, retention and choices

Information is shared only with providers needed to host the site, protect it and deliver correspondence, or with authorities when legally required. The site does not sell contact-form information or use it for a mailing list. Correspondence may be retained while a question or correction is being handled and for a reasonable period afterward for security or record-keeping.

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights relating to access, correction, deletion or objection. Use Contact for a privacy question and describe the request without sending unnecessary sensitive documents.

Changes to this notice

This page will be updated when the site's collection practices or third-party services materially change. The effective date will be revised when those changes affect this notice.
